I met Dara 3 years ago. The first year 1/2 of our relationship was great. I thought for sure that I had found the man that I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with. I believed he truly was a great guy and I fell for him because of the way he loved me back. Even back then we would talk marriage and children. About a year and 6 months in to our relationship he got a job as a bartender at an irish bar. Slowly but surely he began drinking more (he already had a drinking problem) and working more (so he says). He became distant and angry and I think even a little depressed. I tried to help, but he started treating me badly, yelling at me in front of people and snapping at me all the time. Finally in February of 2012 he got so drunk one night he left me at a bar and went home and passed out. I had to end it after that. For a year we were apart and during that time he tried reaching out to me several times to tell me that he was trying to turn things around. He bought us back stage passes to my favorite singer and even took my mom to lunch to talk about getting me back! Finally in December 2012 I decided to give it another try. I took him back after he promised to change jobs, try moving here to the east bay and cut back on his drinking and smoking. For the first couple months it was ok, but I could tell something was different. Finally six months into being back together we went together to my company fundraiser and stayed the night in a hotel in the city. The next morning I woke up and something was telling me to go to his phone. Sure enough there was a girl calling him. When I answered she informed me that she was waiting for him in his bed at home! I told her who I was and she knew about me, called me his “ex”-girlfriend. I had no idea who she was. When I woke him and gave him the phone I had to watch as she yelled at my boyfriend like they were in a relationship. He denied everything. Said she was no one and meant nothing to him. Just a “friend” who he talked to. I walked away that day and haven’t spoken to him since.I loved Dara like I had never loved anyone and I believe he loved me back. I saw through the drinking and smoking and I saw the good person I thought he could be. Unfortunately, he is a very weak and selfish person and instead of talking to me about our relationship issues he took solace with other girls for who knows how long. He truly needs to get help and until he does I don’t believe he will be the guy any girl deserves. |
